Schematics of a Costume

And also, folks, just in time for Halloween (though I'm a little late to it): the new issue of DIAGRAM.

Some great poetry in there, as always, and a really lovely review of Superfecta by Amanda Maule (and, thank you, Amanda, wherever you are out there).

Spooky Little

Happy Halloween, people.

The leaves are really taking off now, the fall wind, and I think of Shelley:

Drive my dead thoughts over the universe,
Like wither'd leaves, to quicken a new birth;
And, by the incantation of this verse,

Scatter, as from an unextinguish'd hearth
Ashes and sparks, my words among mankind!
Be through my lips to unawaken'd earth

The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?

Shelley, Keats, you can see I'm teaching British Literature this semester. O Romantic! O Autumn! O Children of the sweet teeth and ghosts and fangs and fur.

Trick or treat.

Slowly, slowly, the house takes shape. The bathroom is remodelled. The floors refinished. Hopefully by next week things will begin to feel settled.

Fall break at ETSU, and I'm ready for a day off. Give us a holler.
